"Duke," I start, twirling a piece of linguini around my fork. The candlelight dances in his eyes as he looks up from his plate. "Be honest... do you really like working for my dad?"

Duke chuckles, the sound warm and comforting. He sets his cutlery down and leans back in his chair, his dark eyes softening. "Rich is a good guy, Grace. He's tough but fair."

I take a bite of my pasta, savoring the tangy tomato sauce and the rich, creamy cheese. The food here is incredible, but it's Duke's company that makes this meal truly special.

"He clearly thinks the world of you," Duke continues, reaching over to pour himself another glass of wine. His movements are smooth, confident. "I've noticed he always likes your social media posts."

Laughter bubbles up from within me at the image of my father scrolling through Instagram. "I know," I confess, wiping my mouth with a napkin. "When I first started my blog, he was always the first person to like my posts. He wanted to help boost my engagement score."

Duke raises an eyebrow, a playful grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Your dad? On social media?"

I nod, my laughter subsiding into a warm, contented smile. "Yes, can you believe it?" I say, reaching down to stroke Mimi, my French bulldog who's snoozing peacefully by my feet. "He even got me Mimi when I told him I was lonely after college."

The room falls silent for a moment, save for the crackling fire and Mimi's gentle snores. Duke's gaze softens, and there's something in his eyes that makes my heart flutter.

"We should probably get some sleep," he suggests, standing up to clear the table. There's a hint of reluctance in his voice, and I feel a pang of disappointment. I've enjoyed this intimate dinner, just the two of us.

"Yes, we should," I agree, standing up to help him. As we clear the table together, I can't help but feel a warm sense of contentment. The day has been full of surprises, but this evening with Duke... it's been the most wonderful surprise of all.

As we prepare for bed, I can't help but think about how lucky I am. Not just because of the beautiful resort or the amazing food, but because of Duke. He's more than just my bodyguard; he's become a friend, someone I can laugh and share stories with. And as I drift off to sleep, I can't help but hope that this is just the beginning of our story.
